Brilliance from Grapes to Glass
Starting something from scratch, especially after a long stint in the corporate world, is never easy. However, after spending over a decade working together in the corporate sector, two friends—Dr. Navnath Niphade and Prashant Patil—realized that they no longer wanted to continue down that path. They discovered their true calling in the agricultural sector.
Around 2017, both quit their high-paying jobs and moved back to their native village. They decided to explore a business rooted in agriculture, blending their passion for farm-based products with the business acumen they had developed over the years.
“Dreaming big is not the foundation on which middle-class aspirations are built in India.”
Despite their corporate experience, Dr. Navnath Niphade and Mr. Prashant Patil’s journey to entrepreneurship was far from predictable. Coming from families of small-scale farmers in rural India, the idea of starting a business wasn’t even on their radar initially, even after spending more than a decade in the corporate sector.
Neither of them had any background in entrepreneurship, coming from families that were small-scale grape farmers. Although some small-scale grape farmers were exporting grapes to Europe with the help of exporters, the risk was enormous—entire shipments of grapes, consisting of dozens of containers (each carrying 16-20 tons) and worth millions of dollars, could be rejected, jeopardizing the hard work of thousands of farmers for the entire year.
India has a young population of 500 million consumers at or above drinking age, and this demographic increasingly understands the health benefits of moderate wine consumption. With this in mind, both Dr. Niphade and Mr. Patil decided to do something that would benefit both grape farmers and consumers.
They chose to start vineyards in the Nashik district, which has the perfect climate for growing wine grapes. Incorporated in 2022, Savory Wine is a Vinchur Wine MIDC-based startup that offers natural wine made from locally sourced wine grapes. A key aspect of the startup’s approach is to maintain the wine’s taste as natural as possible while preserving its nutritional value.
Savory Wine looks forward to sharing a bottle from its vineyard’s premium collection of wines with you.
